On what would be the 5th Anniversary of Ladies Night at the Gypsy Market Mews, we’re switching things up a little and making it Ladies & Gents Night!

Coinciding with the Gravenhurst BIA’s Black Friday & Annual Tree Lighting event, join us Friday, November 23rd for what is sure to be an unforgettable night of surprises and holiday spirit!

We will be serving up some of the Gypsy boys’ fave new west coast California wines that they discovered in their latest trip out west. This will go wonderfully with some delicious nibblies and treats from Relish – who are also celebrating their 2nd Anniversary that night.

We’ll have THREE promotions running this evening:

1) Gift with Purchase. Get some of that holiday shopping out of the way early and get rewarded! There will be gifts for purchases of $40, $70 and $100…. but you’ll have to come see what they are!

2) Present the Gent. We’re launching a registry program this year to make holiday shopping even easier. So, present your gent – or a friend – to set up your registry on the 23rd and be entered to win an INCREDIBLE prize. Like, a HUGE prize. Like, a game-changer. But shhhhh, we can’t say what it is yet!!

3) Happy Hali-days! November 23rd marks the kick-off of our Season of Giving and we want to share our hope and support for Hali Camick, a local mother of 3 who is living with MS. We’ll have a collection jar out on the counter from November 23rd all the way up until Christmas Eve for you to drop donations to support Hali. On Christmas Eve we will tally up the donations and the Gypsy Market Mews will match that amount and make the donation to Hali.

When The Eagles stopped to catch their breath a few decades ago, having sold over 100 million records, collected six Grammy’s, and enjoyed six #1 albums, Hotel California began a pioneering journey through their history-making  music that has taken them around the globe and thrilled hundreds of thousands of Eagles fans. It’s been a journey they could never have imagined back in 1986, but their dedication, unique musical gifts, and an obsessive commitment to doing this legendary music true justice in performance, set them apart from the many Eagles bands that came after them. Hotel California toured relentlessly from the 80’s straight through to today, setting the standard for world-class tribute productions as they went, and sharing stages with the likes of The Doobie Bros., Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gretchen Wilson, REO Speedwagon, and many more.  From Japan to Dubai, Toronto to Texas, Hotel California has boldly taken the tribute band where none had gone before them, and changed an industry’s collective mind about how good a “tribute” band could really be.

Town of Gravenhurst Updates
Gravenhurst Public Library is once again encouraging the community to help decorate their ‘Mitten Tree’ to help support the local community during the cold winter months. Donations will be accepted at the Library from November 19 to December 14, at the Library.

Come “decorate” the tree with new handmade or store bought mittens, hats, scarves, socks and gloves during regular Library operating hours.  All ‘decorations’ will be donated to the Manna Food Bank and the Women’s Resource Centre, Gravenhurst.  “This is also a great opportunity to bring the crafting community together for a common charitable goal that everyone can participate in,” said Julia Reinhart, Chief Librarian.

The idea of the ‘Mitten Tree’ is inspired by the book ‘In The Mitten Tree’ by Candace Christiansen, where Sarah sees a boy waiting for a bus on a snowy winter’s day and notices he doesn’t have any mittens. Worried he can’t join in the winter fun; Sarah decides to knit a pair of mittens for the boy and leaves these on the tree next to the bus stop. Each day thereafter, children discover new mittens until one day Sarah fills the tree with what she has knitted. “That’s what we hope to do here at the Gravenhurst Public Library and we are calling on people in the community to help us make it happen,” said Reinhart.

For more information about donating to the Mitten Tree, please drop by the Library or call 705-687-3382

With the arrival of our first heavy snowfall in Gravenhurst, the By-Law division would like to remind the public that winter parking restrictions are now in effect until April 30th 2018.

Please make sure your vehicles are parked in driveways and off the road between the hours of 12:00 am to 7:00 am, this allows for proper snow removal operations to take place in the town without obstructions.

Vehicles found in contravention will be subject to penalties and may be towed at the owners expense.

While clearing your driveways and paths, please ensure that the snow is not being deposited on the road as it can cause hazardous driving conditions to motorists and is an offence under the Highway Traffic Act.

The Gravenhurst By-law division and Public Works appreciates the publics cooperation and look forward to a safe winter season ahead.

The Town of Gravenhurst is excited to announce the launch of its brand new website today www.gravenhurst.ca. The site aims to deliver improved customer focused service, additional accessibility options and mobile friendly features.

“Council is committed to maintaining good communications with the community, I’m excited about where we’re going with our new website and it’s enhanced features,” said Mayor Elect Paul Kelly.  “We’re confident that this new upgrade and responsive design will provide an even better user experience to those visiting us Online, who are looking to find out more information about the Town and its various services,” said Glen Davies, Chief Administrative Officer. “Our website remains one of our most important communications tools and we want to ensure it is best serving the needs of the community and visitors alike by keeping up with the most current technology,” Davies added.

While the most important new feature of the upgrade includes a mobile adaptiveness and responsive design, the site also does a better job at integrating social media, it is Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) compliant, helps users find information they’re looking for faster, and will eventually include more e-Commerce capability. “We recognize that people are looking for more convenience and this site will allow us to integrate more of those features in the near future,” said Jason Harnett, communications specialist and project lead.

Within the new website, users will also find three micro-sites that share plenty of helpful information about the Fire Department, Gravenhurst Opera House and Gravenhurst Public Library. “We have a great staff support group who are dedicated to this project and have worked hard to ensure that content is relevant, informative and easy to understand, based on community input we received,” said Harnett. “This group will continue to make sure our website remains timely and informative. We look forward to receiving ongoing feedback from the community,” he added.

The community is encouraged to explore the new site, become a subscriber to one of the many information feeds, find out what’s happening in the community calendar, report a problem, learn more about Council and upcoming meetings and agendas and so much more.

“We’re also very fortunate to be able to feature so many great images of our Town within the site which helps promote tourism and showcases all of the amazing aspects and special events that happen in Gravenhurst throughout the year,” said Harnett.
